I3M Spring Symposium - April 16, 2008
Expertise mapping, an innovative knowledge management methodology that pictorially depicts the depth and location of key areas of knowledge in an organization, is creating new answers at 3M to traditional problems such as succession planning, post-acquisition integration, global key account management, global knowledge transfer and many others. J. Roberto Evaristo, Knowledge Management Office at 3M, discussed how 3M is using knowledge management to redefine its innovation agenda.
At the Spring 2008 I3M Symposium, partners of Institute for Innovation in Information Management presented their challenges and success stories about leveraging information technologies for organizational innovation. Annie Searle, Senior Vice President from Washington Mutual discussed how WaMu leveraged ideas for innovation through a pilot program. Members of WaMu`s community of practice provided context, discussed history, constraints and lessons learned.
Chris Rivinus, Knowledge Manager from Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) discussed how their community of practice, called Practice Area Networks(PAN), provided strong and consistent business value by enabling global organizational learning. Eric Larsen, Managing Director from BlackRock, discussed the challenges and solutions for, building collaborative and innovative cultures and the role of IT in these endeavors. Paul Arnold, Planning Manager from PB presented how spatial and temporal data are applied to common situations to yield compelling results using GPS devices, low-cost mapping tools and three-dimensional modeling software.
