What do you like to read?

Welcome!

This website describes my research and teaching activities. Please contact me if you have questions or interest in any of the work or events referred to on these pages. I would like to hear from you. I am always looking for individuals and institutions willing to take part in the projects described here.

Research Interests

I investigate the interpersonal and environmental dimensions of mediation in reference and information services. During the mediation process, what exactly does an information professional provide to the information user? What factors facilitate or inhibit this process?  Finally, what are the observable indicators that a reader has benefited from talking with a librarian?

The significance of this research lies in:

1. Gathering evidence for evaluating information services, improving practice, and developing curriculum.
2. Creating tools for efficient management of staff and information resources within organizations.
3. Identifying the most critical skills, values, and professional knowledge necessary for providing excellent service.

Instruction

I teach in the areas of reference and information services, collection management, information literacy, and teaching methods.
