Applying to the MSIM Program

Application Deadlines


Day MSIM
  • Priority deadline for U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents: January 15 
  • International Applicant deadline (who have or will need a
    student F-1 visa): November 1.

Executive MSIM

  • Priority deadline U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents: May 1
  • Applications received after May 1st will be considered on a
    space-available basis
  • International Applicant deadline (who have or will need a
    student F-1 visa): November 1

To be considered for admission, applicants must complete and submit the UW Graduate School online application.  We encourage prospective applicants from diverse backgrounds and professional experiences to apply.

Requirements for Admission

All applicants to the MSIM program must meet the following basic requirements:

  • Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Grade point average of 3.0 or higher (some exceptions considered)
Applicants to the Executive MSIM Program must meet this additional requirement:
  • Professional experience with information technology or management (3 years minimum)

Application Checklist

  1. Prepare materials for online application.
  2. Apply online.
    • Complete the UW Graduate School online application.
      This application includes the statement of purpose, resume/cv, and letters of recommendation.
    • Pay the application fee ($50 USD).
  3. Mail other application materials.
    • Request that official GRE scores be sent to the Information School.
    • Request that official transcripts from all relevant institutions be sent directly to the Information School.
    • Recommendations should be submitted electronically via the online application.  If you choose not to use the online process, request that recommendations be sent directly to the Information School.
    • International students must follow additional requirements below.
  4. Check receipt status of other application materials online.

International Students

An international student is defined as any person who is not a U.S. citizen and does not hold a U.S. Permanent Resident Visa. The definition of international student also includes those who hold U.S. visas, such as an F-1 visa, exchange visitors, and other non-immigrant classifications.

International applicants must submit additional required materials to the Graduate School.

The application deadline for all international applicants is November 1st because of the additional processing time required. We cannot guarantee full consideration for applications received from international applicants after November 1. If you have questions please contact our Admissions Counselor.
