Non-Matriculated Options for IMT Courses

Individuals may register in certain Information Management and Technology (IMT) graduate courses as a non-matriculated or graduate non-matriculated student (on a space-available basis) providing you receive instructor permission (View UW Academic Calendar).

The following guidelines apply:
  • Non-matriculated students are eligible to take approved IMT cores and electives on a space-available basis.
  • Non-matriculated students are eligible for standby registration status; students are not officially registered until the 3rd day of the quarter.

Non-Matriculated (NM) status
If you plan on taking courses that will be applied towards the MSIM degree program in the future, please follow the directions for applying for Graduate Non-Matriculated status. If you wish to take courses for purposes other than applying them towards the MSIM degree program, follow the instructions for Non-Matriculated status. Credits earned in non-matriculated status will not apply to a future MSIM degree.

Graduate Non-Matriculated (GNM) status
This option allows GNM students to apply courses, taken as GNM, towards the MSIM degree program in the future. Courses, however, must be completed and applied toward the master’s within a six-year period. To register for courses, you must first get GNM status. See the instructions on the GNM application process.

Applying to the MSIM degree
If you are planning on applying to the MSIM degree program in the future, you will not be able to apply credits earned as a non-matriculated student towards a future MSIM degree. However, credits earned in graduate non-matriculated status may count towards a future MSIM degree. Please note that all credits used toward a master's degree must be earned and applied within a six-year timeframe. For further information on the program and degree application procedure, please visit the MSIM website.
