Scholarships for Information School MLIS Students
LIS Information School Scholarships
The iSchool Financial Awards Committee selects recipients of UW Library and Information scholarships. All incoming first-year MLIS students are automatically considered for these scholarships as part of the admissions process. Continuing MLIS students who wish to be considered should complete an
online application. To be considered for need-based financial aid, all first-year and continuing MLIS students should submit the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Genevieve C. Cobb Scholarship
Criteria: Financial need as established by the FAFSA, admitted first-year student, evidence of scholarship based upon submitted documentation, and evaluation of applicant, as determined from letters of recommendation. The number of scholarships awarded will be determined each year by the number of candidates and by the amount of available funds.
Benjamin F. Page Fellowship
Criteria: Financial need as established by the FAFSA, established or potential academic achievement, and first or second-year student with preference given to second-year students.
Marguerite E. McAlphin Endowed Fellowship
Criteria: Financial need as established by the FAFSA and academic merit.
Koon Family Endowed Fellowship
Criteria: Financial need as established by the FAFSA, academic merit, and first or second-year student.
William E. Henry Scholarship
Criteria: Academic achievement during the first two quarters as a student in the Information School, leadership potential and financial need as established by the FAFSA. Academic achievement and leadership potential measured in the following ways:
- Academic achievement: receipt of 3.50 average GPA (or above).
- Leadership potential: recommendation by one or more faculty members and/or students as having leadership potential.
The number of scholarships awarded will be determined by the number of candidates judged outstanding by the Awards, Fellowships, and Loans Committee, candidates’ degree of need, and available funds. Scholarship recipients will be selected during Spring Quarter of each year. Recipients will receive the scholarships during the next quarter they attend classes.
Sylvia Lake Finley Multiethnic Fellowship
Criteria: Candidates must quality for minority status specifically as American Indian, Alaskan Native, Asian, Black, or Chicano as defined by the University of Washington’s office of Minority Affairs, financial need as established by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and admission to the University of Washington Graduate School and to the Information School. The number of fellowships awarded will be determined each year by the amount of funds available and the number of qualified candidates. Fellowship recipients are to be selected during the Spring Quarter. They are to receive a prorated portion of funds during each quarter they are in attendance during the following academic year.
